Most women won’t leave the house without some form of makeup. On the other hand, some women know nothing about makeup and are intimidated by the many colors, styles, brands, and types of makeup out there today. This should help.

There are two basic types of skin tones: cool and warm. The easiest way to tell which one is best for you is to compare your skin to a white t-shirt, then a beige t-shirt. If the white looks better, then the skin is cold. Cool skin works best with blue or pink undertones in foundation, pale blues, purples, dark greens, gray eyeshadows, and pink blushes.

Warm (skin best in beige) works with yellow, bronze, cream, light brown, pink, soft green and coral foundations, and warm brown and copper blushes. For both skin types, however, darkness and lightness will also determine which tones are worn. Light skin works best with reddish-pink and beige blushes, and darker skin with plumes, auburn, or rich bronzes. Tanned and dark skin looks best in warm neutral colors.

Eyeshadow color is the hardest to pinpoint because it’s not just skin tone that plays apart, but eye color, hair color, and clothing colors as well. Blue eyes mostly look good in shades of pink, blue, brown, and purple. Brown eyes look good on beige, toffee, chocolate, white, and dark brown. Green eyes look good in peach, pink and purple tones. Hazel eyes are lucky and can go with just about any color type depending on your tendencies toward green, blue, or brown.
