Spring Break 2012 is fast approaching and Spring Break today is different than it was a year ago. Where South Padre Island or Palm Springs used to serve as spring break party palaces in years past, today’s spring break is more sophisticated and aspirational. For 2012, the hot spots to go seem to be Honolulu, Hawaii and South Beach, Miami, Florida.

Hordes of vacationers will descend on these two cities in the coming months, mainly due to the exotic offerings that the cities have to offer. Before, spring break needed any warm weather and a keg to party on. Now these biggest market cities are becoming key destinations.

The nightlife in South Beach, Miami is legendary. With the high street sporting shades of colorful nightlife-filled cafes, bars, and clubs, it’s no wonder today’s spring breakers already have their flights booked. Add to that several high-end hotels offering innovative hotel deals and cheaper flights than last season and you have the perfect recipe for a good time. When you’re in South Beach, you’ll never be short of something to do. Sleep in, then walk to the picture-perfect white sand beach and enjoy the sun, waves, and bathing suits. People tend to let go of their inhibitions in Miami, so get ready to see more skin than you’ve ever seen in your life. Take a dip in the sea or the hotel pool, then have a relaxed lunch in one of the hundreds of small restaurants that line the boulevard. Do some shopping for yourself or a loved one, then have your first drink around 3pm (3 is the new 5pm in Miami!). Then put on your fanciest strings, head to a steak or sushi restaurant, or better yet, a crab restaurant, and then you’ll find yourself dancing silly into the wee hours of the morning. Did you drink too much? Refresh yourself in a coffee shop and clear your mind before going to sleep once again, and sleep until noon. Can spring break get any better? Before you know it, you’ll be back on that plane, sitting in the middle seat, exhausted, maybe a little sad to leave, but rest assured, your face and soul will have been warmed by the sunlight. .

Honolulu, Hawaii has been called the best place to visit in the world and it’s no wonder why. Hawaii itself is a great tourist getaway and Oahu is its largest tourist city. Thousands flock to the beautiful white-sand beaches, the exotic tropical climate bristling with comforting trade winds, and the alluring hotels that line the ocean shore. Like Miami, high-end hotels are also offering innovative deals this spring in Honolulu, so take advantage of the savings (maybe put it on airfare!) and enjoy sunning yourself on a surfboard at Waikiki Beach. Or shop at the hundreds of mom-and-pop stores that line the boulevard. Much like Miami, you’ll find yourself sleeping late, sipping cocktails early, all while enjoying more skin, sightseeing, and natural wonders than you can imagine. Another great offering that Honolulu has to offer is nightlife. Most other cities in Hawaii get very sleepy after dark, but not Honolulu. Just like Miami, this place stays warm after the sun goes down.

For 2012, spring break has a more refined flavor. The prerequisite for a good time is no longer a hot place, but a warm place with high-end hotels, beautiful natural beauty and stunning exotic locations. Have fun, stay safe, and most of all, have a wonderful Spring Break 2012!
