If you are a gamer and wish to become a paid game tester then you are in luck as the video game tester requirements they are quite lax these days; therefore, almost anyone can get a job testing video games for pay.

These are the most basic requirements for video game testers …

You must be at least 18 years old. This requirement can be modified depending on the gaming company that hires you. Although they are usually few and far between, in fact there are companies that hire players under the age of 18.

Must be an avid gamer with a lot of experience.. In this age, who is not a gamer? A couple of weeks with Halo, Final Fantasy, Oblivion and / or any other very popular game and anyone can call themselves an “avid” gamer.

Must upgrade to the next generation. If you’re not playing next-gen video games or own a next-gen system (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii), then you are VERY behind when it comes to video game testing jobs. Since many developers have “in house” testing opportunities, it is vital that you catch up and enter the next generation race. (If you don’t have a next-gen system, you need a high-end computer)

Must have a high-end computer. If you are more of a PC gamer, then having a powerful computer is of crucial importance. A powerful PC means that you will be able to put any of the developer’s games to the test without worrying about your own hardware problems. (If you don’t have a high-end computer, you need a next-gen system)

Must have a video game tester resume. No matter how long you’ve been testing (or trying to test) games, you simply have to have a professional-looking resume. Pro game testing is a job, so you can’t hope to get by with just a smile and “Can I test games for you?” mentality. Remember, your resume doesn’t have to be impressive, it just has to be professional and well-crafted.

The above video game tester requirements are really all you need to get started. In fact, some of those requirements may be null and void when it comes to certain developers. With that said, don’t be afraid to submit your application / resume just because it doesn’t meet a certain requirement; You never know what exceptions a gaming company is willing to make!
