You don’t have to have a queasy stomach to dive. You also don’t need to be able to run a mile. It is not a requirement to be a strong swimmer or even a good swimmer. More importantly, you don’t have to look good in a bathing suit. Most of us divers look just like you. As with any sporting activity, it is always good to consult a doctor before starting. Yes, you can put it on your bucket list because you are not too old to start your underwater adventure. I personally started and got my diving certificate at the age of 49. I was trained and certified in just three days by Scuba School International. AJ was my SSI certified trainer and he is 72 years old. AJ also started his underwater adventures later in life.

SSI has training programs starting at age eight. So it involves the whole family, including grandpa. SSI is not the only training available. PADI and NAUI are also highly reputable dive training schools with highly trained instructors.

Once again, I would recommend and encourage everyone to consult a doctor before starting their underwater adventure. That being said, I am not the image of health. Plagued by asthma throughout my life, as well as sinus problems. These problems have not stopped me from snorkeling or diving. In 2004, I broke my back and yes, I am also a little overweight. Not to mention, I take medication for panic attacks. The point is, nothing can stop you except you.

Scuba gear must be expensive, right? Yes, it can be expensive. The good news is, you don’t have to rush out to buy scuba gear. most training schools have equipment for rent. Diving equipment for my training was supplied as part of the package. It is a good idea to buy your own mask and snorkel. This will ensure that your mask fits correctly and that no one else has used the tube. I would recommend getting your first mask from a local dive shop so that you have a proper fit for your first diving experience. Until you know if scuba diving is for you, it is a good idea to simply rent scuba gear. This will also give you an idea of what you like and what you don’t like. You may find that you need something warmer or cooler. You can do it. You can dive, but do it for you and only for you. A 15-foot dive is as relaxing as a 50-foot dive. You don’t have to go to the ocean or some exotic beach to enjoy diving. There are places from coast to coast, from Wyoming to Arkansas. Branson, Missouri is known for its great theater, but it is a fun place to discover scuba diving. Table Rock Lake State Park Marina offers a unique discovery dive for you and your family. It’s a great way to find out if underwater fun is for you and yours. But let me warn you, you will fall in love with the underwater world.

Other divers will become a second family. You will become familiar with the term dive buddy. You will be proud to be someone’s dive buddy and they will be proud to become your dive buddy. Don’t wait another minute to change your life and fall in love with new adventures.
