As a child, I always had the problem of choosing which team I liked. My mom’s family are huge Chicago fans no matter what sport it was. The problem with that was that there were two teams in Chicago! On the other hand, my dad’s family were huge Cardinals fans. No matter where I was as a kid, I always doubted myself which team I would cheer for. As a child you are supposed to listen to what your elders say, the only problem was that they told me two different things and it was driving me crazy. I decided I wanted to see for myself what a place I felt was “home”. There we have a couple of things that I took into account when deciding, and they were: the atmosphere of the stadium, the fans that surrounded me and the things they did for the children.

When you’re a kid and your mom or dad tells you that you’re going to attend a professional sporting event, your heart feels like it’s going to explode. I was six years old going to see my idols play a sport that I dreamed of playing when I was their age; There is nothing like that. The first game I went to was when the Chicago Cubs played the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wrigley Stadium was great! The ivy growing on the wall gave it an old school feel. It was a feeling difficult to describe in words. I really liked the ballpark, and that was when the Cubs had Sammy Sosa. It was a lot of fun, except the people around me really made me uncomfortable. The fans around the use only said negative things about the Cubs and how bad they were, and worst of all, they were Cubs fans! The park was really dirty with rubbish lying on the ground. It made the atmosphere of the game so much worse, and I just wanted to quit the game because it wasn’t fun. Also, at the time I went, they didn’t really have anything fun for the kids to do before or after the game. The players didn’t come to talk to anyone, maybe I just went to the wrong game but it didn’t feel like home.

The next game I went to see was the Chicago White Sox! My grandfather took me this time because that was his favorite team. We walked in there US Cellular Field was hands down better than Wrigley Field. One of the best things about it was that there was hardly any trash on the floor. They took very good care of the stands where people sat.
