The Hero and Honda brands are two prominent two-wheeler manufacturers in the world. The Indian two-wheeler market is completely dominated by these two companies. In the 100cc segment, the Hero Passion XPro and the Honda Dream Yuga are very popular bikes.

Hero Passion, released in 2001, has two siblings: Passion Plus and Passion Pro. The Passion XPro is the latest model from Passion released in 2013. This bike is priced between Rs 51,146 to Rs 55,244 for different models. The Honda Dream Yuga released in 2012 is a 110cc motorbike priced between Rs 49,155 to Rs 52,842.

The Passion’s combo console has an analog speedometer, digital fuel gauge, two digital trip meters, and a low fuel gauge. The Dream Yuga has an analog speedometer, digital fuel gauge, and low fuel, low oil, and low battery indicators. They both have autoboot and boot options. The Passion has a 3 Ah battery, 35-watt halogen headlights, 5W/21W multi-reflector brake and taillights, and turn signals and passing lights. The Dream Yuga has a 2.5 Ah battery with multi-reflector headlights, LED tail and brake lights, as well as turn and passing signals.

The Passion XPro is powered by a 109cc 8.7HP 9.36NM engine. The Yuga has a 109 cc engine, 8.25 HP and 8.63 NM. Both have carburetor-type fuel and fully transistorized ignition systems. A 4-speed manual gearbox, wet multi-plate clutch, and chain drive are common to the two bikes. Acceleration is better for the Hero bike, which takes 7 seconds from 0 to 60 kmph, while the Yuga takes 8.8 seconds. The Yuga’s 72 kmpl fuel efficiency is better than the Passion XPro’s 60 kmpl.

The Passion has a diamond tubular frame with hydraulic telescopic suspension at the front and swingarm type with 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear. Passion tires are 80/100×18″-47P at the front and 90/90×18″-51P at the rear. It has 240mm disc brakes at the front and 130mm disc or drum brakes at the rear. The Yuga has a diamond frame with telescopic suspension at the front and tube-type side-operated suspensions at the rear. Tires are 80/100×18″-47P and 51P for the Yuga. The Yuga has 130mm drum brakes at both ends. The 113kg Passion has 170mm better ground clearance than the 161mm on the Yuga, which weighs 108kg.

The brakes are better for the Passion XPro. An in-seat cargo net, larger fuel tank and better fuel efficiency are the Honda Dream Yuga’s plus points.
