The well-known and renowned NFL shield has certainly made a name for itself in the world of sports. The shield is not only a representation of the team, but also a symbol of victory, glory, aggressiveness, loyalty and celebration.

It is a symbol that has united soccer fans across the country and brought them together in one stadium. When it was formed in 1920, it started with just eleven teams, but now manages more than thirty-two teams from across the United States.

NFL Football Logo Design History:

The old symbol:

This symbol was created in 1940, two decades after the founding of the NFL, and has represented the football federation until 2008. It consists of a shield with 25 stars and an image of a football in the upper half of the image. The football in the image has often been nicknamed the NFL Burger due to its resemblance to the famous American snack. The lower half of the design attends to the initials of the team name. The crest is created with only three colors; red, dark blue and white, making the image sophisticated and eye-catching. These colors are also found on the national flag, giving the design a patriotic feel. The emblem’s stars are also illustrated for the same reasons; as well as adding a touch of glamor to the design. The text has been written in thick, straight fonts with the letter L curved at the end which gives an artistic touch to the monogram.

The new symbol:

In 2008, the NFL created a slimmer, meaner, and darker version of its old emblem. On the new monogram, the crest was created to be slightly thinner and taller, and the shade of blue was darkened. The subtle changes to the emblem were made so that the famous NFL could be updated with the times but without losing the traditional and historical touch that the corporation is proud of. The stars in the image have also decreased from 25 to 8 to represent the 8 divisions served by the NFL. The image of the soccer ball in the design is also made to appear more three-dimensional, which no longer resembles a hamburger. While the colors and basic shape remain the same, the text has lost its former curvaceousness and has been replaced with sharp-edged text that represents professionalism and aggression.

This symbol has been an inspiration for many American football teams such as the NY Giants logo, the Minnesota Vikings football logo, and the Houston Texas logo.

In conclusion, the NFL has created a brand that contains all the important elements that any national emblem should have; it is a symbol of history, tradition, patriotism and pride that any American football fan would be proud to wear.
