There is a growing demand for Ayurvedic spas. Due to the demand, “Ayurvedic” spas have sprung up like mushrooms in cities and towns. It seems like every other spa offers Ayurvedic treatments and massages. Don’t be fooled most of the time, most of these spas are traditional and not Ayurvedic.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurvedic comes from the word Ayurveda, the oldest system of “preventive” medicine in the world. Ayurveda means “knowledge of life” developed in India more than 6,000 years ago. The system is all about the natural focus on balancing the body and empowering it by creating its ability to heal. According to practice, diseases are caused by impurities and imbalances in the body that accumulate over time. The goal of Ayurvedic massages and treatments is to purge imbalances from the body and, in the process, teach everyone how to lead a balanced and healthy life.

Authentic Ayurvedic Spa

An authentic Ayurvedic spa offers holistic treatments and rejuvenates a person’s body, mind and spirit in a sense. Before a treatment recommendation is given, a qualified Ayurvedic physician will do a health consultation with the client to diagnose imbalances in the body. A pulse diagnostic will easily detect any subtle imbalance in the client. The entire treatment process is personalized since no two clients have the same imbalances. The foods to be eaten, the type of treatment and even the herbs and oils used for the massage are specified.

Ayurvedic treatments

A consultation is a necessity as a treatment that is beneficial to one may not be beneficial or, worse still, detrimental to another. Ayurvedic treatments deeply penetrate and cleanse the entire body, removing toxins from the body. These toxins cause impurities and imbalances in the body, according to this ancient Vedic system of health care. A comprehensive Ayurvedic treatment not only cleanses, balances, and rejuvenates the body, it can add years to a person’s lifespan. In some cases, the treatments are not only for a general feeling of well-being, but also for specific ailments and diseases.

Ayurvedic massages

Ayurvedic massages are nothing like the usual massages you get in a traditional spa. It is more complete since an Ayurvedic massage that is carried out correctly will balance all the body processes: body, mind and spirit.

Perhaps the most important aspect of an Ayurvedic massage is the marma points of the body. What are these? A marma is a place in the body where two or more types of tissues converge, that is, bones, muscles, veins, ligaments, and joints. There are several marma points on the body. These points are not simply physical points, but more of the physical body that connects to self-awareness. Marma points, when massaged, will awaken the holistic value of awareness within the client’s physical body.

If you go to an Ayurveda Spa and the “therapists” cannot explain the essence of a massage, better go and find an authentic one.
